One other note: This is a new laptop that came with Windows 10. Removed
that and reformatted the HD to ext4 and swap.
So, this is now a Ubuntu ONLY laptop.

Title:
Shutdown hangs or locks up.
Status in plymouth package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Toshiba Laptop C55-5240X. Cannot shut down. Hangs at splash or "Will
now halt."
Actually, this may be a solution.
Installed Ubuntu 14.04.3 - No shutdown. Same with Ubuntu 14.04.2.
(amd64, both)
After numerous re-installs with .3 and .2 above. No luck. Changed BIOS to CSM (No Secure boot and No UEFI)
Now the computer ran but hung on shutdown.
Finally (With BIOS at CSM, no Secure boot and no UEFI), I tried my old original Ubuntu 14.04. (amd64).
After initial install the laptop would shutdown normally.
Then ran the updates. Shutdown still OK.
Seems odd that an initial 14.04, amd64 install is needed since the
14.04.2 and 14.04.3 installs fail.
Hope this helps. I would very much appreciate an explanation.
Thanks,
Ken Wagner
