Title:
  there should be an 'unstable' version for testing new features like -M
  mixed metadata/data blocks

Status in btrfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Btrfs_source_repositories

  Support for mixed data/metadata is only in the integration branch and
  not the 2 year old stable branch.

  $ git clone http://git.darksatanic.net/repo/btrfs-progs-unstable.git
  $ cd btrfs-progs-unstable
  $ git branch -a
  pick the latest integration date and then...
  $ git checkout integration-YYYYMMDD

  compile this to get btrfs-utils which support experimental / in
  testing features.

  Such features are required when / is on a < 4gb partition.
