I'm fine with that. We can close the bug. I've moved on to Xubuntu
14.04, Mint 17 and Elementary OS Freya.

Title:
  Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 fails with error "Resolve generated
  breaks, this may be caused by held packages"

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Attempting to upgrade my 64-bit 11.10 system to 12.04, I encountered
  the following error message:

  <quote>
  Could not calculate the upgrade

  An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
  E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

   This can be caused by:
   * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
   * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
   * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

  If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a terminal.

  First I removed old package configuration files using the instructions
  here:

  http://tuxtweaks.com/2011/09/remove-old-package-configuration-files-
  in-ubuntu/

  ...but this didn't help.

  My /etc/apt/sources.list looks like this:

  $ grep -v "^#" /etc/apt/sources.list

  deb http://ie.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted

  ...and my /etc/apt/sources.list.d looks like this:

  ...so I stripped all of the non-standard sources back to the basics on
  the "Other Software" tab of the "Software Sources" dialog.

  The only "Other Software" source left checked were:

  Independent (binaries and source)
  Canonical Partners (binaries and source)
  http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main

  Once again I tried to upgrade, once again it failed with the error
  outlined above.
