It seems to me like this has reportedly been fixed in BIOS changes or
caused by other hardware issues, so I'm going to close this as Invalid
(because we don't know exactly what fixed it), as well as since this is
an old bug.
Marco, if you're still seeing this issue on newer releases than 10.10
(which is no longer supported); please file a separate bug, making sure
you do so using "ubuntu-bug", so that all the necessary information is
automatically included. That way we can more easily fix the particular
issue you're seeing.
** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Invalid

Title:
DVD missing after install
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Installed Ubuntu 8.10, updated to latest available revisions without
issue, DVD drive present during install, after required reboot, no dvd
drive, no devices present in /dev that would lead to an optical drive.
This is a new laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad Y710 - 2GB Ram - 250 GB HDD -
OptiArc DVD-RW - Intel 4965agn wireless - Broadcom NetLink BCM5906M
Fast Ethernet PCI Express - Lenovo EasyCam - Intel HD Audio (ALC888).
Everything, but the DVD, works flawlessly. Please help, I need the DVD drive when I'm on the road for work, and an external unit is not on option.

This problem also influence Ubuntu10.04. And I find that while grub2 run, the LED of DVD would be lighted ,and then I can't find DVD driver in any OS .The LED light will not be turned off until the laptop has been shutdown.
I'm not good at English, so do you know what I mean?
