Bug description:
  GOAL3+ V1.1C motherboard sis chipset.  onboard video.  First boot gave "can't unity" message.  Logged off and picked (deliberately) Classic (no effects) option.  Logged on and did updates automatically.  Had taken monitor to sleep previously a time or two.
  lspci attached.  Memtest was OK, but only 5 minute run.  Other HW tests OK, seems stable (after resetting CMOS).  Was freshly formatted using ext4.  Slackware's gcc errored out compiling multiple versions of Kolab, so trying Ubuntu.
