Feisty is no more a supported version; and grub legacy upstream is also
stopped, only receiving possible random fixes locally
** Changed in: grub (Ubuntu)

Title:
GRUB writes to wrong MBR and destroys RAID setup
Status in grub package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
With the Feisty Final Desktop 7.04 LiveCD, the installer detected my
40gb primary hard disk as "SCSI0" and my hardware RAID drives as hda1
and hda2. I boot Windows XP from the Primary 40gb hard disk (SCSI0)
and I created Ubuntu's partitions in a second primary partition on
that physical hard disk.
Ubuntu installed to this partition without a hitch, but no options
were provided for the installation of GRUB. GRUB automatically
overwrote the MBR on the WRONG HARD DRIVE which was a member of my
hardware RAID-0 array, thus breaking the array. I did NOT intend for
the OS to make any changes whatsoever to these two physical disks as I
had not even attempted to configure any raid drivers yet. However,
since the array disks were detected as hda1 and hda2 I guess GRUB
assumed that those were the primary boot hard drives and thus wrote
the MBR to hda1 instead of the *actual* boot hard drive SCSI0.
Fortunately, the data was recoverable.
The installer should provide options of whether or not to install
GRUB, and also WHERE to install GRUB.
