Lucid is no more a supported version; and grub legacy upstream is also
stopped, only receiving possible random fixes locally
** Changed in: grub (Ubuntu)

Title:
Ubuntu bootloader on own partition hasn't worked since 9.04
Status in grub package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: grub
Ubuntu installation lets you tell it to put bootloader on its own partition, but this doesn't work under Ubuntu 9.10 or 10.04;
it did work in 9.04.
Whatever multi-booter you have in your MBR looks at the Ubuntu partition you specify, but can't find the
partition bootloader. I put Fedora's multi-booter in my MBR. No, it's not a Fedora problem: Fedora does a straight
chain-load to whichever partition you specify, whether it's a Microsoft system (which works, by the way) or another
flavor of Linux.
Bug #563313 reported this as specific to 10.04 beta2, but it's not. This is almost certainly caused by a change in
the way the (later) version of GRUB, used by Ubuntu, numbers partitions. Fedora uses the older version of GRUB,
which doesn't screw up. The newer version, used by Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04, does. It's probably just putting its
bootloader in the wrong partition. See bug #360898.
