Title:
building data-structure takes far too long

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

On the PowerPC-Platform the software behaves more or less like on i386
or amd64, except for one thing: Building the data-structure takes more
than ten times longer. I don't know what's happenig in the background,
all I can say is, that I haven't noticed other significantly longer
lasting processes of upgrading the packages f.e. in aptitude. I'm
experiencing this since I'm using Ubuntu on PowerPC, namely since
  maverick.
