Title:
No changelog information with non-standard network connection
Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager
In Maverick, developers added a line "You may not be able to check for updates or download new updates".
It appears when network-manager indicates no connection. In that version it was disturbing, but not harmful.
Now in Natty, they have gone even further and disabled changelog downloading. It became wrong.
If it goes further that way, in Oneric, we won't be able to install updates at all. It will be harmful.
The thing is, I *have* a connection. It just is established by a command-line, not from network-manager.
I would be eager to use network-manager, but it is not tailored to use a device that I'm connecting to internet with.
I believe update-manager developers have no good reasons to disable networking functions of their program
based on wrong indications of network-manager. Turn changelog downloading back, please.
