Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Both gdebi and synaptic are not installed by default anymore. Is that
enough of a fix?

Software center is pretty important to the Ubuntu story.

Title:
  Moving of 'gdebi', 'synaptic', 'software-center' and 'software-
  properties-gtk' to 'desktop-recommends*'

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I wish we could move the following packages from 'desktop*' to
  'desktop-recommends*'

  * gdebi
  * software-center
  * software-properties-gtk
  * synaptic

  Reasoning:

  Many admins for business systems want to have these apps removed for
  safety and do not wish to play hide and seek on the menus; and also
  don't want to have to remove the 'ubuntu-desktop' package. It would be
  nice to shift the above apps to allow this to take place.
