You mention "non secure boot" in the bug description. Do you mean you've
disabled secure boot in the BIOS? I'd be curious to see if that's a
difference between the Fedora and Ubuntu installs, aside from the other
differences is EFI booting we already know about.
** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete

Title:
Ubuntu does not boot after install
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I ran into problems while upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04. I decided to
backup my files and do a fresh install (the option called : erase disk
and install). The installation went smoothly, no error reported but
when I reboot there is no Ubuntu (nor grub) screen. I'm simply facing
a bios (?) screen telling me "Windows (sic) did not start please try
one these : boot on an external drive, contact vaio support, ..." My
guess is grub is not correctly installed, I followed a few tutorials,
run boot-repair, ... but nothing works.
As far as I can tell, the installation is all right: I can boot into
14.04 with rEFInd on a live USB
I was worried about my hardware so I installed Fedora (erase disk and
install) and it worked!
Boot mode : EFI
Non secure boot
One SSD hard drive
