Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10, but the upgrade failed. I posted the issue on: http://askubuntu.com/questions/571892/troubleshooting-upgrade-to-14-10?noredirect=1#comment788618_571892. They said to post it here as well.
I received the message below:

Calculating the changes
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

I think it is because I tried to install MATE, but I did not like MATE.
I uninstalled MATE and after uninstalling MATE, I have had a lot of
issues. I am not sure about this, it is just a hunch.
