Thanks for your kind reply. I also suspect hard disk problem. I posted the
error, just in case, if it is of any use for the community. I am not a
software expert.

Firstly, upgraded from 14.04, which had boot issues. Second clean
installation resulted in black screen problems duing boot. The third
clean installation had fsck error. Current reinstallation failed.
