[Bug 1407457] [NEW] ubiquity installer error Win7x64,AMD VirtualBox

Public bug reported:

Attempted a fresh install of Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.1 LTS then 14.10 on VirtualBox (on Windows 7 x64, AMD). The following installer errors occurred.
N.B. I am using a dynamically assigned disk

1. install.py error when running install from the "CD" boot menu (this is unrelated to this post)
2. ubiquity error near the end of installation when no previous OS exists.
3. ubiquity error when erasing and reinstalling OS after previously failed installation. This is the error that I am posting the error report for.

This error or associated prevents install and at the moment I'm sunk.
