Title:
Update process breaks menu.lst every time.

Status in Software Updater:
  Invalid
Status in grub package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I am (X)Ubuntu user since version 6.10 and I always have multiple ubuntu installs on system
(One for work and another for testing latest version).

Every time kernel updates from update process, it breaks /boot/grub/menu.lst options
so with every kernel update, i can forget of booting another ubuntu(and another Linux) instalation..
it is the same with no difference, with Hardy LTS and with newest testing edition.

What happens is that kernel update change whole menu.lst item it founds in that system version
  and changes boot options, accordingly.
So, everu */ubuntu assumes it is alone on machine thus, in most cases disabling ability
to boot another Linux installation and also changes options in menu.lst that does not belongs to it.

So every time since 6.10, with any kernel update, I needed to edit menu.lst I am finally finished with that
and I am posting this bug so we finally get rid of that broken behavior.
(Maybe we don`t have more testing of new releases, because people are afraid of multiple installs,
that breaks their default working install on every update?)

This is what today`s Hardy update is ready to be done: To break my 9.04 instalaltion on another partition:
(9.04 update does exactly the same thing, but after 9.04 update of grub options, Hardy does not even boot because of different boot options)

  -title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-13-generic
  -uuid a1cd637f-764b-44ae-84f1-92ad5b980912
  +title Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, kernel 2.6.28-13-generic
  +root a1cd637f-764b-44ae-84f1-92ad5b980912
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.28-13-generic root=UUID=812050d1-cf24-439f-a639-0f15aaa70dac ro quiet splash
   initrd /initrd.img-2.6.28-13-generic
   quiet

And also, with this changes, my Hardy install never boots (and every
time i need to boot from cd to edit menu.lst):

  -title Ubuntu 8.04.3, kernel 2.6.24-23-generic
  -root (hd0,0)
-kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.24-23-generic root=/dev/md2 ro quiet splash
  +title Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, kernel 2.6.24-23-generic
  +root a1cd637f-764b-44ae-84f1-92ad5b980912
  +kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.24-23-generic root=UUID=812050d1-cf24-439f-a639-0f15aaa70dac ro quiet splash
   initrd /initrd.img-2.6.24-23-generic
   quiet

So, Hardy, per instance, will not boot with that UUID thing and update
  process is broken.
