------- Comment From pavsubra at in.ibm.com 2015-02-23 12:42 EDT-------
The original problem occurred with the below firmware:

root at ubuntu:~# lsmcode
Version of System Firmware is FW820.02 (TC820_048) (t) FW820.02 (TC820_048) (p) FW820.02 (TC820_048) (b)
Version of PFW is 15392014103181CF0681

Again I have executed the test scenario on a LPAR which has the below
firmware level and the gcc-4.9 got build successfully.

root at ubuntu:~# lsmcode
Version of System Firmware is FW830.00 (TV830_012) (t) FW830.00 (TV830_012) (p) FW830.00 (TV830_012) (b)
Version of PFW is 13382014112881CF0681

So, the issue is not occurring with the latest Firmware levels on a
Power 8 machine.

  == Comment: #4 - Peter E. Bergner <bergner at us.ibm.com> - 2015-02-19 08:14:54 ==
  When building a userland package causes the kernel to hang, that is a kernel bug, not a userland bug.
