I was testing this on a Dell mini9 netbook with similar default
resolution and encountered this bug as well.

  initial install/try window is not displayed on netbook screen

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Using a hp mini 110 (default screen resolution 1024x576).

  Upon loading the livecd for installing, the system boots successfully
  and displays the wallpaper. However the install/try screen doesn't
  appear.

  Doing alt+tab will show that the install/try screen has loaded.

  Pressing space will select the default "install" and proceed to the
  next step, which does appear on the screen.
