If your bios is not configured to boot from /dev/sda, then you need to
manually choose to install grub to the device it does boot from in the
disk partitioning screen of the installer ( there is no way to
automatically detect which drive your bios boots from ).

** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

Title:
  grub doesn't find right hd to install to

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub

  grub2
  Karmik 64
  fresh install

  After installation, grub installed on sda, but the system boots from sdb;
  I had to manually correct the installation, automatical recognition didn't work;

  Pc booted from previous grub1 (from Jaunty) installation on sdb, and
  then stopped because it didn't find Jaunty kernel and image after
  Karmic installation.
