Public bug reported:
I was trying to install Ubuntu 14.04.1 alongside Windows 7, on a
"retained partition" on a Dynamic Disk set. GRUB was unable to be
installed entirely in that disk's boot area, and I was asked how to
proceed. I selected to install GRUB's second stage on the same partition
as Ubuntu, and the installer promptly completed, then crashed,
generating this bug report.
For interpreting the attached logs:
/dev/sdb is the target device
/dev/sdb1 - Logical Disk Manager control area (~1MB)
/dev/sdb2 - Retained Partition for Windows 7 (currently empty; Win7 is installed elsewhere) (250GB)
/dev/sdb3 - Retained Partition for Ubunutu (just installed here) (250GB)
/dev/sdb4 - Retained Partition (~1.33TB)
--- - empty space, presumed backup copy of LDM control area (~1MB)
