[Bug 1348214] [NEW] Web pages with .local TLD will not load in a browser

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Web pages with .local TLD will not load in a browser. A nslookup will
reply back with the correct IP of the server, but when you attempt to
access the site in a browser it will fail to load.

EXAMPLE:

In terminal:
~$ nslookup myserver.mydomain.local
Server: 127.0.1.1
Address:	127.0.1.1#53
Name:	nslookup myserver.mydomain.local
Address: 10.0.0.50

However, if you open a browser (tested Firefox and Chromium) and go to
http://myserver.mydomain.local/ it will fail to load the page. It WILL
however load the page if you change the URL to just http://myserver/ .

The full web address http://myserver.mydomain.local/ works fine in
Windows, Apple OS, iOS, Android, and other Linux varients such as
CentOS. Just not in any of the Ubuntu flavors I have tried.

** Affects: nss-mdns (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
