Title:
package libzeitgeist-1.0-1 0.3.18-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade:
package libzeitgeist-1.0-1 is already installed and configured
Status in “dpkg” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Since updating to 14.04 I am repeatedly prompted with a dialog box
with the message "The System has encountered a problem", after which I
have to repeatedly authenticate in order to file a bug report.
Frankly, I would rather see the error contents myself than have to
repeatedly type my password in order to authenticate. Many of the
problems seem to be related to failed installations of various upgrade
packages.
Is this a bug? Probably, because I am repeatedly having to support
Ubuntu systems for which the upgrade process fails in a cryptic
manner, sometimes clobbering the video driver so the user has no way
of knowing what is wrong.
Although the upgrade process seems to have succeeded on this MacBook
Pro version 2.2 with Intel Core-2 duo processor, the repeated cryptic
prompting from the bug tracking system greatly decreases my confidence
in the system. How about either prompting me with a message saying
"The following packages failed to install... etc." Or at least cache
my password so I don't have to repeatedly authenticate in order to
file requested bug reports.
Whether or not the issues being reported are caused by bugs, I would
definitely classify this as buggy behavior by the operating system
because it interrupts me fruom getting my work done.
