This can be closed, the problem is fixed.  After removing the ia32-libs
package, the upgrade was able to continue.  It just hit me that the
ia32-libs metapackage is no longer available in 14.04, so it might have
been causing issues.

First time bug reporting, looking now for how to close the bug (if I
can).

  Saw an error regarding Cinnamon in the debug report so I removed it
