You attempted to install grub to /dev/sda, which is a blank disk. If
that is indeed the disk you want the computer to boot from, you must
create at least one partition on it for grub to be able to install
there.
** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Invalid

Title:
during install of Ubuntu GNOME beta 1 'grub-installer' cannot write
grub to any drive or partition
Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
doing a fresh install of Ubuntu Gnome beta1 with updates enabled during install works fine.
untill grub-installer tries to write grub to a drive or partition, i tried all possible drives/partitions, none works.
when i installed the same os on this computer for the 2nd yesterday it worked fine. (the 1st time failed back then as well).
i hope this will help fix this bug for other future users.
for now i will install mint 17 until the final release of 14.10 is out.
