Anything that completes on package names is potentially going to be
slow, because esp. on the first run.
some dpkg and apt commands are slow when the binaries and the data they
need all have to get loaded from disk.

Title:
aptitude bash autocompletion is slow in some cases
Status in bash-completion package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: bash-completion
Intrepid, bash-completion 20060301-4ubuntu1. Sometimes pressing tab to
complete package name to install takes a couple of secconds, the cpu
usage is 100% during that time. Unfortunately, I haven't found any
conditions for which this bug can be reproduced.
