Have you tried the command `sudo apt-get do-release-upgrade` in
Terminal? Also try `sudo apt-get do-release-upgrade -d` (this normally
upgrades you to the development branch (currently 15.04) but since it
can only go from 12.04 to 14.04 it will just do that) (both without
backticks (``)).
