running gksudo update-manager launches the GUI and when clicking on the
"Install Now", it then asks for the password, this does not happen with
it being launched either by cron / daemon or selected via menu. Using
gksudo update-manager does update the system.

  update-notifier tells me there are updates and I can see the list, but
  when I click on 'install' the program quits with no error message
  shown on screen, hopefully there is data in the attached files. It
  happens every time.
