I tried the process of  creating a partition on the drive that mounted
at "/dev/sda" but the same error occured.  I then also tried installing
the bootloader to "/dev/sdb" and that failed also.  I then tried to
reset my bios settings and that seemed to fix it, I'm not sure what
changed as I just did the "Reset to factory settings" in the bios but
that fixed it.

Bug description:
  I attempted to install Ubuntu 14.10 and the installation of the GRUB
  bootloader failed.  I tried to install the bootloader by hand though
  the terminal but got the error that "/cow" could not be found.
