  apt-get update on a fresh Trusty AWS EC2 instance in the us-east-1
  region fails:

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch a vanilla Trusty instance off ami-297e7440
  2. Log on to the new instance instance
  3. Run "sudo apt-get update"

  This works fine in e.g. us-west-2, and used to work in us-east-1 as
  late as March 4th.
