  grub crashed with SIGSEGV

Status in “grub” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub

  installed 9.04, won't boot: "G Hard Drive Error" - so I booted a live
  cd to try and diagnose.

  sudo grub, get prompt 
  grub> root (hd0,0)
  grub> kernel /vmlinuz Segmentation fault (core dumped)
  ubuntu at ubuntu:~$ 

  tried with different devies, smaller partitions, etc - no luck:
  grub> root (hd0,1) 
  grub> kernel /
   Possible files are: lost+found System.map-2.6.28-11-generic abi-2.6.28-11-gene
