        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Bash completion miserabily fails if you have $( as shown below:

greg at prato:~$ any_command $([PRESS TAB]

and you get this:

greg at prato:~$ any_command $(-bash: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `)'
-bash: syntax error: unexpected end of file
