[Bug 1328483] [NEW] fresh install cannot apply security update

Public bug reported:

I don't know, because after a fresh install of 14.04 LTS, applying
security updates broke the partition table so that the reboot failed,
and then the installer failed to cope with the broken partition table,
and even if I knew what the problem was I have no partition from which
to gather data. Thanks.
