[Bug 1323384] Re: Updating ubuntu 10.04 LTS to 12.04.4 LTS Failed

I saw that but I could not understand what I
could do about it, if anything at this point. The
system is running, but it isn't right yet and I
haven't been able to figure out how to get dchcp3
server to install and configure at all. Tells me
that some of the dhcp server config is, but it won't remove it either.

I got similar errors to these, too, when I let
webmin initiate and run apt updates for some cups stuff recently, too.

The system seems in some kind of working limbo.
apache3 is cool, popfile is cool, samba works,
dhcp server is gone and cannot be brought back by
removing/installing. Also noticed that the grub
update in that apt-term.log was strange and am
thinking that the grub configuration is flawed.
Maybe running whatever was there before the
upgrade to 12.04 LTS. Might explain the dhcp
server issue? But, I don't know how or what to do about that either.

Do you have any recommendations on how to repair
this partially successful upgrade or would you
suggest I bail on this server entirely and try
building a new one all over again?

Thanks for your help.

Updating ubuntu 10.04 LTS to 12.04.4 LTS Failed

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
First experience with this SERVER update using the update-manager via
Putty connection to a very old laptop IBM running a few services
nicely 2-3 years. After 7 HOURS, the update falied. Some services
seem to have survived (apache, DNS are running) but others aren't
(e.g. dhcp and I cannot manage it with Webmin). Popfile survived AND
was updated cleanly (I think) and is running. Webmin is sketchy and
apt seems not to be looking in the right places yet. Enough is
working that I can get by, which is a surprise, but I am not that
proficient that I trust myself to fix the stuff and worry that I may
lose my services and have to build a new server after all this.

Anyway...after spending 7 hours watching the show, I find it unlikely
I will ever try another update with that tool. So I will try to give
you what I have and maybe you can learn something from it and convince
me to try again at another time when I can afford that much. I could
have just built a new server in this much time.

Good luck. I appreciate your work, but this part of it needs help.
