No issue with CD/DVD. ISO was put on a thumb drive using unetbootin.
Other forum members on Kubuntu forums complaining of the same issue.

Title:
installer for Kubuntu 14.04 does not recognize existing windows
install and will not give the option to resize partitions.

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Kubuntu installer does not recognize previously installed operating
systems and offer the option to install alongside it. I was only given
the option to use the entire disk or setup the partition myself. To
test this I tried to install Ubuntu 14.04 and it recongnized my
wondows 7 partition just fine and offered the option to install
  alongside it.
