By the way, there wasn't 26 broken. there were 69 broken. However, it
was just aptitude's actions, causing it to go mad.

Title:
Precise update-manager 0.156.14.15 breaks Xorg dependencies

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I was running 12.04.4 LTS x86 with proprietary NVIDIA 304 drivers on a
  Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2.

I had modified GRUB2 to try to fix Plymouth, which left me with a low-
res screen when I removed NVIDIA, so I kept the driver installed.

In the update manager today, version 0.156.14.15, I got a notification
at the top saying (I forget what it exactly said) 'Hardware updates
are available' explaining 'support was ending for...' and that so I
clicked install and entered sudo password.

I was expecting just a normal update, nothing big.

  Instead, I got this:

It removed NVIDIA, and installed Saucy backports for Xorg.

It has left me with broken dependencies when I ran apt-get, so I
checked what was wrong in Aptitude.

  According to Aptitude:

   "[1(1)/...] Suggest 26 keeps"
The packages listed under "Resolve Dependencies" were:

  which were mostly complaining "

-> Cancel the installation of xserver-xorg-glamoregl-lts-saucy
  "

Synaptic and Update Manager are not complaining about anything.

I do not know why it installed Saucy backports, when I had (some)
  Trusty versions installed.

I do not know what to do. I am also stuck with 1280x1024 forced screen
resolution and 77Hz refresh rate, no other option (according to
LXRandr), thanks to my GRUB tweaking. (I have 1920x1200 resolution)
