The desktop cd does not contain packages so can not be used for this
purpose.

Title:
CD-ROM entry should be added automatically during an installation from
  USB stick

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: mountall

If you install Ubuntu from USB stick (which can be set up using USB
Startup Disk Creator) it doesn't add a proper CD-ROM entry to fstab. A
usual user won't be able to add it later on their own, so it should be
  done during an installation process.
