Well the desktop ISO supports installing "free software only" already,
which is a reduced subset of Ubuntu.

So there is no reason it couldn't provide another option that was an
even more reduced subset.

Title:
Add option to install Ubuntu Core from the Ubuntu Desktop image

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
In the installer you can press F6 to get an option to install "free
  software only".

I would like there to be an option "Ubuntu Core only" that installs only the Ubuntu Core packages.
  Basically kernel, sh, and apt.
