It seems that this has been fixed by disabling the back button once you
get to the time zone page.

Title:
installer reverts to partition selection instead of manual
  partitioning screen

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
During installation of the karmic the installer reaches the step where
one can choose: between automatic partitioning using biggest free
space or manual partitioning. When one chooses manual partitioning and
selects all the partitioning options and mount points and then clicks
forward the installer goes to the screen where name and password are
  asked.

Problem: One might have forgotten some option and would like to revert
to the previous manual partitioning screen. Clicking Back however
brings one to the first screen where the selection between automatic
and manual partitioning is made. When you click manual again the
previous partition settings and mount points are lost and you have to
  set them again.

Suggested Fix: You should have to click the Back button twice to get
back to the automatic/manual selection menu.
