9.04 reached end of life several years ago and in 9.10 we switched to
grub2. Can you reproduce this on 12.04+?

Title:
Grub couldn't be placed on SD memory when install

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on my HP laptop, but not on harddisk,
just on a SDHC expansion memory card. I solved it by adding a USB
memory where I placed the system, and let /home to be on the SDHC
  memory.
