Memtest fine.
Didn't run cd test as not using a CD.
Resolved problem in the end. I'd been copying the installer onto USB
using dd (as the startup disk creator crashed every time). In the end I
removed all partitions from the USB stick, formatted, and then the
startup disk creator worked.
