Public bug reported:

Please sync syslinux 3:4.05+dfsg-6+deb8u1 (main) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
    - Backport from upstream:
      + Handle constructors/destructors via .init_array and .fini_array, as
        generated by newer gccs.
    - Stop forcing the use of gcc-4.6, since the above backport allows the
      use of gcc-4.7.
The above changes were to fix an FTBFS with the current version of GCC in Ubuntu, which was GCC 4.7 at the time. Debian's version builds perfectly on a local amd64 pbuilder with GCC 4.8, the default version in Trusty, so the delta can be dropped.

Changelog entries since current trusty version
3:4.05+dfsg-6+deb7u3ubuntu1:

syslinux (3:4.05+dfsg-6+deb8u1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Applying patch from Tom Jampen <jampen at cryptography.ch> to add a
workaround in root device detection of extlinux' postinst for bugs in
df (see #656067 and #656333) in connection with UUIDs.
  * Using findmnt instead of df-parsing in extlinux.postinst to find root
partition, thanks to Marcin Szewczyk <debian.bugreport at wodny.org>
    (Closes: #670515).
  * Adding patch from upstream to fix build with newer gcc.
