[Bug 584329] Re: poor raid support - no rescue raid support

apt-get install mdadm takes care of the raid support.

As for hda -> sda, everyone has made the transition to libata from the
old, depreciated ide driver, and geometry is non existent legacy
nonsense.

Title:
poor raid support - no rescue raid support

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  version 10.04
live CD has no raid support

  cat /proc/mdstat => nothing folks

alt CD has raid support BUT --- /dev had no MD devices

This all came about because neither LILO or GRUB-INSTALLER will set up
  the boot area.

sigh.... I'm about ready to give up on Ubuntu because of the lack of
  proper support for software raid.

  Problems:

fdisk reports /dev/sdX for IDE drives where most other distros report /dev/hdX
and there is no easy way to see the disk geometry reported by the bios

partitioner insists on using geometry other than that reported by
  fdisk

grub error when using grub/floppy unknown partition type 0xFD

Ubuntu is about the nicest desktop linux distro I have been able to
find. The lack of viable raid support makes it a non-starter.
