Hello Chris, or anyone else affected,

Accepted iproute into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iproute/20120521-3ubuntu1.2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

  Fix Released
Status in “iproute” source package in Precise:
  Fix Committed
Status in “iproute” source package in Quantal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When using iproute commands with a large number of network devices (virtual ethernet adapters, etc) iproute performance becomes much slower.

  [Test Case]
  1) Download attached 'make_fake_routers.sh' and 'parse.py' scripts.
  2) ./make_fake_routers.sh 3000 ip > results
  3) ./parse.py results

You should be able to graph and clearly see a performance improvement
with the fix than without it.

  [Regression Potential]
  This patch fixes the issue:
  https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/shemminger/iproute2.git/commit/?id=f0124b0f0aa0e5b9288114eb8e6ff9b4f8c33ec8
This patch is upstream and is currently in saucy and beyond.
