Bug description:
  notify-osd is intrusive and needs to be removed.  synaptic shows a that ubuntu-deskop is dependent on notify-usd.  you cannot remove notify-osd without removing ubuntu-desktop.
  the dependency needs to be removed in order to allow notify-osd to be removed in order to eliminate intrusive screen behavior
