I can work around this by running it directly via sudo, but that does
little good from people who are using the dash.

Bug description:
  Steps to Recreate:
  1: Log in as a normal user
  2: Run Startup Disk Creator form the Dash
  3: Select a USB disk and click Erase Disk
  4: Click Yes when asked "Are you sure you want to erase the entire disk"
  5: You will get a PolicyKit popup titled "Authenticate" that says: "System policy prevents formatting this device" "An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges.  Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action."
  6: Enter your password in the "Password for root:" field and click Authenticate
  7: Your password will be rejected with a message: "Your authentication attempt was unsuccessful. Please try again."

  No matter how many times I try, it always fails to authenticate, and I
  am unable to create USB startup devices from Ubuntu ISOs.

  I have verified, yet again, that sudo works:
  bladernr at klaatu:~/Downloads/ISOs/Trusty$ sudo ls
  [sudo] password for bladernr: 
  ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso	ubuntu-14.04-server-amd64.iso
  ubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso	ubuntu-14.04-server-i386.iso

  This was working fine BEFORE the Release, it is now broken AFTER
  Release.
