Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa.  This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu.  The page,

how to revert to the official Xorg packages.  Thanks.

Status in “ubuntu-release-upgrader” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Either GUI Software Update tool or "do-release-upgrade" fail to go
  beyond the "calculation changes" stage and end up rolling back to the
  start point and exiting. This is going from Ubuntu Studio 13.10 to
  14.01. Another similar upgrade was performed without a problem.
