Thanks for filing this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. It's a

Title:
  Fonts corrupted when scrollbars appear

Status in “fontconfig” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello,

I have noticed that the fonts of certain programs become corrupted
when scroll bars appear. They are not corrupted when there are no
scroll bars. This took a while to understand and does not affect all
applications. I have noticed this behavior in Gedit and Synaptic, so I
think it is not a problem related to a specific application. I have
filed this bug under fontconfig, but I am not actually sure the cause
of it. This is also a new problem with Ubuntu 14.04. I upgraded from
13.10 and that version did not have this problem.

To illustrate this font corruption I have attached a screenshot of
Gedit. As soon as the scrollbars appear the text becomes blurry.
