This is insane! I copied the the header and the bug report and you cant
find it even though there are entries today. This is a major bug that
you seem unwilling to admit to. two years ago when Fedora did the same
thing they lost, and Ubuntu gained.

Everyone who has reported this fiasco has been snubbed or called
ignorant. Simply updating to, or installing 14.04 causes the system to
fail, taking all others loaded by grub2 with them.

Since the loader is wrapped in script, and components sprinkled around
the root drive, it would seem that Ubuntu is falling into the same trap
as Fedora.

Among other problems the Grub2 loader thinks that all my partitions
should be renamed, "msdos1, msdos2, etc.

I have tried everything proposed and realize that the only way to fix
this is to remove ALL ofGRUB including the service files.

If a fix is not forthcoming UBUNTU looses big time.

Title:
Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in "error: symbol
  'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"

Status in Ubuntu Release Upgrader:
  New
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
The update from 13.10 to 14.04 via update-manager broke grub for me,
which resulted in the grub error:

  "symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"

To fix the problem I had to boot to my persisting Ubuntu installation
(e.g. using Super Grub Disk) and had to reinstall grub on my boot
  partition: "sudo grub-install --recheck /dev/sdx"
