This seems to have moved from a bug report to a general discussion on
how so versioning is handled in unix. Please try the ubuntu forums,
ubuntu irc channels or some other form of medium for support. You could
also try reading up on existing documentation available on the web, even
though it might be a bit hard to digest at first. Unfortunately I don't
have enough free time to work on bug triaging and also do user support.

  libarchive.so is not symlinked

Status in “libarchive” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  In Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04, there is a libarchive.so.12 and
  libarchive.so.13, respectively. However, there is no libarchive.so .
  This makes it hard to build against.

  Can you add this?
