I use gnome,  so I was just able to

apt-get remove unity

The upgrade tool was then able to calulate the upgrade.  I will
reinstall unity afer upgrade if needed.

Bug description:
  Cannot calculate upgarde.  I'm not upgrading to a pre-release version
  or running a current pre-releaes version.  I have also turned off all
  other software sources.

  I expected this to work,  however I continue to get the Could not
  calculate upgrade message.  I have dissabled all third party soruces
  (I had been running google's chrome).
