I had the same trouble with 12.04 but boot-repair got around it.
According to other emails boot-repair is not yet available for 14.04. I
did a ctrl-I during startup and disabled raid. I then booted into the
live cd and used the gparted tool. I put / on sda and /home on sdb. It
results in some waste on sda but saves a lot of aggravation. I have now
installed without any problems.

I have another destop with 4 ssds on raid 0. That is hardware raid so
the os only sees 1 device. I don't expect any problem there. The laptop
had software raid.

good luck

Jack
